Convulsif (CH)

Convulsif (CH) is a collective and band which originated in 2014, initiated by the bass player LoïcGrobéty. The quartet focuses to an enriched tension between composition and improvisation in powerful sounds and experiments at the limits of styles and musical languages. With its special and outstanding instrumentation – a classic rhythm section with Loïc Grobéty on bass & Maxime Hänsenberger on drums and a heavy amplified, treated violin & bass clarinet, played by Jamasp Jhabvala respectively Christian Müller – the band goes deep in the sound of the actual rock scene and mix different tendencies to a new unknown conglomerate: Doom, Drone, Black Metal and Noise are played with the means of conceptual improvisation and imposed themes. All colored by a very uncommon instrumentation.

The latest album «Extinct» is an expedition to extremes – darkness and speed, contrast and vigor, momentum and flow. Convulsif’s fifth album is ever self-inventing gloomy rock in the abyss between subgenres: noise, metal, jazz and grindcore. When the band toured in Cuba in 2018, they challenged themselves to never repeat a set. Every nighthad to be different from the ones before. They switched the order of songs or stepped up the improvised elements, to recreate the moment’s mood in their sinister sound universe. On the album, they used their live-skills to play a tight, hypnotic and rich flow that keeps shattering common conceptions of rock music.
